such the perfect day to wear my favorite outfit of the moment. everything that i'm loving that i will probably get myself tired of soon; floral blouses, open-knit sweaters and high waist a-line shorts. i aimlessly drove around today and ended up at one of my favorite spots to shoot, these art studios in my town. the people that live there always welcome my brother and i. and they always change up their alleys/yards/gardens/porches, so different scenery every time.

i use instagram as kind of a fix when i can't blog. it's also a fun way to share little things daily that don't require a whole post. i put together this little collage of things i've been up to the past couple weeks or so including my new dark hair. after a month deciding if i really wanted to keep my ombre or not, i did it and i really love it.

after almost two years with it, i just felt i needed something different.

not so early, a little late actually but i was able to get my hands on this blouse. i really couldn't forget about this print. for one, it's on almost every blog. but it's really that good. i caved in and started the search on eBay but i found a good deal a month ago from an extremely kind seller. she has a lot of the most wanted things from zara. check her store out here. and last but not least, these shoes. i literally took them out of the box when they arrived today, put them on and walked out the door. the suede wedge is perfect - i ~~can~~ will wear them with everything.

there was a floral tee i wanted from topshop last summer that was sold out in my size. i was browsing through the 'last sizes' section online on zara and found this one very similar to it. wore it to run a few errands today that included searching for a certain shade of revlon's lip butter and stocking up my freezer with my favorite thrifty's pistachio ice cream. failed at the lip butter but succeeded with the ice cream! :9

for no particular reason i have never tried a 'mullet' or hi-low skirt until i was sent this pretty dress. when i first put it on, i realized i've been missing out. it's such a fun shape. when the weather becomes warmer, i will show off its racer back straps and lace-up front. but for now a nice comfy knit feels perfect over it, giving me a skirt in the meanwhile. way too pretty and wispy, i needed to toughen it up with my ankle strap sandals. now it's perfect. ...off to ballet practice ;)

still very much in love with this zara top. these shorts i'm wearing is actually another romper gifted to me by yumi kim. i'm still deciding whether to keep it as a romper or cut the top half off so i can comfortably wear them (to death) this spring. i love this print so much. i wish i had it in a button up shirt and a dress.

these were taken last week when we were having spring weather. i wasn't sure whether to post these or redo this outfit in different scenery but since it is way too cold to even think of wearing shorts (just looking at these photos are giving me goosebumps on my legs) i thought i would because this is my favorite look of the moment.

happy MLK day, all! hope you're enjoying your monday however it's spent. i'm here at home with the kids finding ways they can earn stars for their reward chart. if you have kids, this is the best kind of bribery ;) they've also been telling me what they learned at school about civil rights and activism. one thing i love about my girls is their compassion and how sensitive they are to others' feelings. if there is one thing you have to teach kids it's that. that will take them a long way.

anyway, on a lighter note i've been trying to figure out what i don't need in my closet and how i can use or reinvent the pieces i do want to keep. i'm having a hard time because i have things in colors i can't work with and rompers that i only want the bottom part to. and other "issues" but who cares... i started this "panicking" and bought some shorts in primary colors (except the black pair). i've decided that primary is my new neutral. and these are a couple new tops i took snapshots of while trying on.

i had so much fun at xxi on saturday. i want to thank them, especially allie again for such a fun experience and for inviting me. it was pretty cool walking up to the front of the long line and being let in before everyone else. there was a local radio station inside with dj's on 2 of the 3 floors. music blasting. the videographer was following me waiting for my indecisive self to finally tag something. i finally did and i was filmed tagging it and then later interviewed at the 3rd floor. i'm so afraid to see it.

here are the photos my brother was able to take. i was given 5 signs to post on my 'crushes' throughout the store and it was really hard narrowing them down. most of the things i wanted to tag were on mannequins or on display so it was hard to pin point them with my signs. i love my clutches, especially colored ones for this spring/summer so i tagged - and purchased the scalloped one i was wearing in the previous post. i also tagged a pretty magenta and burgandy printed blouse that i would wear with black shorts, a chunky geometric gold ring and round metal frame sunnies. i also loved the navy polkadot skirt on the mannequin. there was a tweed(ish) cream motorcycle jacket i really wanted to tag but there were only 2 left.

dug way back in my closet today and pulled out this f21 polkadot top from last spring and these really old grey marc by MJ jeans that i didn't even get in any shots. they were updated with my brown floppy fedora and my new watch. i was in my closet putting together some outfits for a few upcoming events i'll be attending and thought i'd put some use to the pieces i hold on to for sentimental reasons.

...so on that cheesy note, i must give a big thanks to all my readers, the friends i've made through blogging, all the sponsors i've gotten and will be working with soon. i never thought all this photo-taking and rambling would bring these opportunities.

even though winter just started, i can hardly wait for spring to arrive. this happens to me every year when all the spring lines are presented. but i'm tired of knits. i didn't think i'd come to this when i was purchasing them like crazy eversince...summer. but i have and i want floral prints, wovens and chiffons. and of course, shorts! until then, i have this fuzzy coat to keep me warm in t shirts and woven tops.

i've been meaning to do a post on this eyebrow kit sent to me by anastasia a couple of months ago. i've been using it eversince and after learning how to use it, watch how to here, i've been able to keep up perfect eyebrows quickly and easily.

today i went shopping with my mom-that's me in her car, and found some things i had been wanting for a while. didn't expect to get any of them crosed off my list or to even have found them today but i'm not complaining. i found a perfectly fuzzy coat at f21 (that i replaced its pearl buttons with gold vintage looking ones) and i finally got a watch of much better quality than my tumblr famous casio. i was inspired by my brother-in-laws watch that i borrowed the night before for a couple hours. i orignally wanted one bigger than the one i did buy but the bezel was larger than my wrist and didn't look right. now my list has been narrowed down to a couple blouses from zara, j brand low rise skinny jeans, this toe ring and this super appropriate belly ring; it's a rose and it's sterling silver-so it doesn't irritate my belly button. my piercing closed so long ago and i miss it. the only thing holding me back is that i'm not as brave as i used to be but we'll see...and of course i will keep you updated!

i'm showing you my second instagram shot of this skirt. somehow it just won't make a full appearance. i attempted to last night after church but the photographer was busy playing the video game, league of legends and supposedly you can't just pause it...hmmm...little brothers... good thing i took this shot in the car right before church i guess. i was very surprised with this coat as i ordered it online. i thought it was going to be flimsy and the leather wouldn't look right so i was little apprehensive submitting my payment. i finally did it and when i recieved it, i was really impressed. and then a week or two later, it goes on sale...hate that. but the price i paid is still way better than how much the one at zara costs.

one of my favorite tops. it looks cute with everything so i have to stop myself from wearing it everday sometimes. i actually need more pants. printed, different textured and skinny - i love the bigger on top and narrow at the bottom silhouette. i actually found a few pairs and this cord, tie dye printed skinny pants are all of the above. and it would look so good with this blouse.

here is a how-to for the waves i usually do. thorough and fast drying is critical for me. hair curls best when completely dry and the least amount of time to dry is important to me especially since i have long hair and a ton of it. i was sent this Hana Air hair dryer from HANA and it has to be the best hair dryer i have and probably will ever use, my hair was completely dry in 5 minutes! that's crazy. the website carries other high quality products like the CHI Hair Dryer.

i like to use tourmaline curling irons, i find they leave my hair smoother, shinier and the curls last so much longer. i own all of 1 1/4", 1 1/2" and 2" barrels. each give different looks all with the same technique.

as for my color, many have asked where i get it done and how i did it. i do all the coloring myself. there are a few steps but i don't recommend doing them all at once. first is to bleach the entire bottom half. i use jerome russell - the most gentle bleach i've ever used. next, i highlight twice (allow at least a week in between) using a highlight cap. the first time, i start bleaching about an inch above where the first bleaching was done. the second time an inch below. last, i tone with a color deposit - or dye that only darkens and does not lighten. the only one i have ever found at the drugstore is Natural Instincts. make sure to choose a 'cool' shade, it contains the right amount of blues/greens/purples to cancel out any brassiness.

i had been looking for the perfect trench coat for a while now and though this is still not quite the one, i'm adoring the little fur collar on it. it's the perfect amount of fur and it's simply...cute.
i dressed it down with jeans but added a little bit of shine with this choker. i love to offset something so casual with something otherwise and i can't wait to do that with something full on blingy, especially for the holidays. i found a gold sequin tunic dress on Goddiva, a UK based site that would look very sexy and unassuming underneath.

but here is the rest of 'glimpse'. i've actually been wearing this sweater almost everyday since i bought it but i wore this exact outfit on saturday when we celebrated my grandmother's 77th birthday (her real birthday is on 11.11...so 77 on 11.11.11) and also, filipinos consider any day when pacquiao fights a holiday so we celebrated that at the party as well.

i just ordered a pair of cobalt blue high waist a-line shorts, very much like the ones in the carven ss12 collection. in the middle of november? i really don't know why. but i'm trying to figure out how to make it work...we'll see...

although this one is old, i had been finding sweaters left and right. whenever i start buying a whole bunch of stuff for myself, i have to get some for the rest of my family. the girls (my 2 daughters) and i drove over to san francisco at right before sunset yesterday to go to zara. it was pretty on the way there but as soon as we parked, it was dark. anyway, they found a lot of boots and sweaters. one sweater i was just about to buy for myself on a previous trip. i love how i can fit size 13-14, the girls clothes are cheaper! so that leaves my son and the husband. i always browse online first to show my husband to make he'll wear it. i like the 'cable detail crewneck' and the 'crewneck wool and cashmere pullover' on this (uk based) site of designer men's knitwear.

was gifted this double finger ring. don't own a lot of silver anymore but thought this zara top, a black stand in for my scf drifter blouse would go well with this statement peice. i had gotten over the delicate birds and feathers deal so this more bold kind was a pleasant surprise.

found this pretty street in the town where i live. all the houses look right into the bay and the sidewalk was lined on both sides with white rose trees (?) it was so hot today and i'm really hoping this is the last of summer. i believe last summer went all the way to november. hoping not again, found this penfield, providence hat on this (uk based) site. the red check is adorable, just bought a sherpa lined denim jacket that it would look so cute with.

it should be pretty evident by now that i love the color cream and suede booties. in my color-coordinated closet, the cream section is the largest and i now have two of each color in suede booties. really can't have/wear enough!

random picks that make a really cute outfit together. and it also includes my current favorite color combo of burgandy and blush. i guess it was all a subconscious thing. these are more free flowing pieces as opposed to the structured basics i've been really into lately. my intent was to pair and balance one of these pieces with said structured and basics. for example the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania leather jacket with a cream shift dress and these rag and bone boots. Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, like these pieces have that rockabilly, free flowing draped on look that is always the perfect balance for structure. *actually just received the cream blouse on monday...so in love with it, it's a stand-in for my silk stone cold fox drifter blouse.

on saturday my husband cooked dinner for my family and we all watched the fight. this is what i wore, all zara. i thought i was done with lace shorts but with free shipping, and paypal as payment method it was just too easy. this one is a little different from my other umm ten or so. i need to list some up on ebay before it gets too cold for shorts. and for it only being september and indian summer has yet to come, i have a pretty good amount of knits. i have a feeling this one will be my go-to knit this fall. oh yeah, i still need to do a post on my hair. i'm actually considering going a couple shades darker and am deciding whether i should keep my bangs or grow them out. tough decisions...

my mom is awesome. i asked her if she could come over to watch my son while i went to a meeting. she did and when i got home, my kitchen was clean! she cleaned out my fridge too! sooo thankful for her! afterward we went thrifting together and she bought me a few things. i found this sweater for $.50, i got a mesh/perforated long sleeve shirt by daryl k for $.75 and this clutch for $1.50...3 things for $2.75, love it. it will be my birthday in a couple days and every year she loves to gift me with jewelry. the diamond pendant i always wear is from her along with a rose pendant and because it's my birthstone, a bunch of sapphires. she asked me what i wanted this year and i showed her the sapphire earrings and the sapphire rings on this uk based website. the sapphire stud earrings would be nice and i really want the band with the strip of sapphires, 2nd one 3rd row down. it's lovely.

definitely didn't pull these shorts out as often as i did last summer. i was actually making an effort not to but this secretary blouse needed something...not serious i guess? how can anyone ever deny denim? i was actually shopping for some for my hubby. he needs help in that area sometimes but it always comes down to what he'll actually wear. i found a bunch of diesel jeans and i will leave it up to him to decide from Box Clothing, a UK based company. i hope he chooses the Jodar and the Koolter ;)

i've shifted from what i mentioned on my last post onto girly shorts with frumpy sweaters. unless you have been living under a rock, you probably checked out zara last night and even placed your very first online order - in the US anyway. i did - at approximately 12:40 am. i got a couple frumpy things and because i never found the perfect black biker jacket last year, i still wanted one and found one some where else for a really good price. there are things i've always wanted but never got to get. like this alexander mcqueen scarf. i like how it kind of looks like tie-dye. i've always liked it in this color and in this color as well. and while we're on the subject of scarves, i found these that will be essential to my fall wardrobe. the takita is my favorite. i'm sooo excited for fall!!

today was my daughter, calise's birthday, she turned the big 8! ;) here are a few instagram shots documenting a little bit of her special day. she chose for me to make french vanilla cupcakes with vanilla cream cheese frosting to share with her classmates. i always make sure to bring treats over to class every year for her birthday, it's a great icebreaker and a nice way to make new friends in the beginning of the school year. after her celebration dinner, we took her shopping for her birthday gift from mommy & daddy. she chose the first 3 harry potter books and she was really happy with her choices.

about 50% of the tops in my closet were printed by the beginning of spring this year and i was barely into them anymore or putting them to use at all. i since avoided buying anything printed and got rid of a bunch of them. as part of my wedding anniversary gift from my husband, he took me shopping last week and the only two tops i picked out were printed. i love prints in pastels because they're cute i guess and i love how they look against something bold like leather. i couldn't resist this one. it actually had dolman or batwing sleeves - like everything else in f21 but i took the armpits in to make it regular sleeves.

i actually got this top from the girls section at zara. i saw it in a bright yellow the week before the sale started and told my sister i'd totally get it for myself if they had it in a different color. it's weird how they bring out things out of no where during their sales....which i don't mind because i get a lot of their "sold out" things on sale. that's what i love about zara sales. and so i got this for $10!

i will finally be giving my sam edelmans a rest! barely any shoes have caught my eye this summer unlike last when i found clogs i wanted everywhere i looked. i'm waiting for 2 pairs of shoes in the mail. hopefully they work out...i'm excited to incorporate them into my not so traditional summer wardrobe i've been putting together this year.

wore this shopping in the city yesterday. my husband took the kids swimming on thursday and as soon as they left i literally felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. i swear i was lifted up off the ground. i let out a good sigh of relief. a day in the city with no kids was calling.

my husband does not approve of any of my crochet shorts because he thinks they look like pajamas. i got these back in december. i actually wanted them a little tighter but now i like that they're a bit baggy. i paired it with my grandpa cardigan to tone it down. i still didn't get his approval hah.

i'm pretty loyal when it comes to certain accessories until i find something new i love. they usually consist of a watch, a bracelet or two and a couple of rings. it probably gets boring to see the same things all the time but it's something like a stamp or mark.

i kept this short sleeved zara cardigan in the shopping bag since i bought it a little over a week ago because i wasn't too sure about it. it's so cute and 60's and i love the open knit but if the sleeves just went to the elbows i would love it. after putting it together with these boots, its possibilities became endless. i've made up my mind.

finally the rest of this outfit. i know, so late! i was waiting for the photographer and the weather to meet at a time they were both available. anyway, i finally bought these boots! i posted or "liked" these on my personal fb back in april. i did a google search and was so lucky to find them on sale at bloomingdales. they were $90 plus an additional 20%. i actually went to the sf bloomies for them but they only had them in my size in ny. it was the last day of the sale and because of the time difference, i couldn't get them. i called ny first thing the next morning and she told me all they had were 6 1/2 and i'm a 7. she said these shoes were meant to be because sam edelman run a half size big! ...and she honored the sale price! regular price was $225 and i got them for $72, so very excited for these. finally replaced my smaller casio watch with a bigger one that i initially wanted but hubby thought wouldn't fit me. i just bent off a bunch of links and it fit me perfect.

i'm going to be on crochet overload very soon. the fact that it's in the form of skirts and most especially, shorts, i'm all for it. i got this skirt along with this clutch a few weeks ago in the mail. i decided i needed more clutches because i was starting to get comments like, 'it's your favorite clutch' on not just one clutch but two of them. but hey, that's what i do, if i love something, i wear it to death. i also got it in blue since they were only about $7 each. only thing is that i had to wait about 3 weeks for them to arrive.

had such a fun weekend. we celebrated mother's day a little early on friday. my hubby took me to the city so i could pick out my gift. found something at zara and we also grabbed some last few things we needed for the wedding we were attending the following day - which i wore this to. we indulged in a lazy sunday this weekend. we usually do church first thing in the morning and then a bunch of chores but this week we slept in, ordered some take-out sushi for lunch and just realxed most of the day. we went to church in the evening and then had dinner at my mom's. it pretty much set the mood for this week so far so i went to the fabric store to give myself a project that i hope to reveal soon.

i have a tree by my balcony that when the sun is setting, it gives a pretty glistening effect with the blowing leaves. i promise i wasn't trying to be poetic. but i just really wanted to play with the lighting. it kind of reminded me of how when i was little, i used to imagine how my mom's room looked before she had kids. for some reason i imagined it like it was a music video with her looking out her balcony in a flowy burgandy marble printed dress and a sheer orange curtain blowing in the wind. i have always wanted to "recreate" that. this is far from it but getting there...

i've been really into orange-red, lavender, cream and black together lately. that's what i concentrated on when i went shopping yesterday and found a super cute pair of orange-red shorts from zara (not this pair i'm wearing here). i got a couple more solids and found a pair of scalloped hem shorts from h&m - last one and it was in my size! i'm so excited...and plus my litttle brother finally bought a new lens! i think i'll wait to show everything through them.

i was finally able to change nail colors from sand tropez to nice is nice...which is really nice :) it's a pretty pale lavender that looks so good with my orangey reds!

DonatilaRose is now 1! sunday, april 10th was actually its one year birthday or anniversary but i was way too tired to even try to get ready for a shoot or pull anything together for a celebration post. i planned a kind of a little last minute surprise party for my hubby's bday on saturday. we had dinner at bix and then went over to som bar in the city. the music was so good there and i hadn't gone out in so long that my body just completely shut down the next day.

anyway, for my blog's one year, i will be holding a contest for a reader to win something i know you will all be excited about. stay tuned as i get everything ready! in the meantime, here is a look i put together monday night and was excited to shoot tuesday. i'm loving animal print with primary colors and my trusty peach feather necklace was the perfect accent. boo to windy days that ruin photos and to rushing out of the house and forgetting to put lipstick or lipgloss on.

thank you sis for my biggest nail color obsession! she gave me essie's sand tropez and this is the 3rd week i've had it on. i've recently bought so many new colors and i can't seem to switch just yet!

these pants were actually a jumpsuit until i cut off the top portion. i was looking for pants and found this online for $15. i bought them planning to cut the top off. i actually got these in the mail 3 weeks ago but i didn't get inspired to put an outfit together with them until today. long flowy pants are officially my new obsession as i forecasted for myself back in the winter. this old clutch of mine is officially my new bag of the moment as well...if you didn't notice ;) i got it a couple years ago but it was hiding at the bottom of my basket of clutches. i'm so glad i reorganized my clutches and rediscovered it.

finally went up this trail by my daughter's school yesterday. i was hoping it led to an enchanted forest but it ended up just leading to a cul-de-sac...disappointed. ever since blogging, i look at trees differently and this one i took pictures on looked like if i sat on it, a little bunny and maybe a doe might've appeared.

i remember writing "j.a.p.a.n." at the end of letters i wrote to my friends yeears ago in grade school. it stood for "just always pray at night" and japan continues to be in my prayers. yumi kim will be donating $50 for each "blue petals" item sold to the red cross for relief in japan.

i wore this helen dress casually yesterday to have lunch and hang out in over in downtown benicia. it's so pretty and girly that it was kind of fun to toughen it up a little.

it's kind of odd for me that i've been wearing rompers lately. i've just been having fun styling them right now. to be honest, i only bought this one because it had the scalloped embroidered hem and they were only $9. now i regret not getting the fuschia one.

i had an enjoyable weekend. kicked it off on friday by enjoying the warm weather in the city wearing shorts and a sheer polka dot blouse. i really don't know what's better than comfortably wearing shorts in the city. and then the weekend winded down with some family over. good conversation, happy kids and just the company of loved ones is the perfect way to do it. what did my title have to do with any of my writing content? ...besides this part? absolutley nothing ;)

wednesday, when these photos were taken, was my husband's birthday. we went downtown and onto the dock and enjoyed the water and the beautiful weather before we went and had dinner. i felt it was the perfect time to wear this jumper. i love all of its details that make it so fun and so pretty. and unlike in a dress, i didn't have to worry about any indescent exposures on a windy day like that one.

i have to finally plan a ny trip this summer. i was so close to winning the bloomingdales contest that would've brought me there. i've been wanting to go forever already and there are all these shops i'm hearing about that i need to visit! has anyone heard of the gramercy project? they are shops whose staple brands they house are Yumi Kim, MinkPink, Plastic Island, Isidoro Francisco, Dolce Vita, shoes by Jeffrey Campbell and DV. check out these photos...

hello, the mac! as you may know, my laptop crashed or caught a virus and i never thought to use our mac. my husband took it apart or did some things to it and told me not to use it a few months ago so i kind of forgot about it. i turned it on and it's fine!

anyway, i'm really loving all this sun. despite me not having a computer, or not knowing i had a working one, i took every advantage to continue taking photos for the blog. these were taken tuesday and again by my little brother. he's getting the hang of everything and i'm getting used to his shooting rhythm.

i'm really liking this blush and navy combo. i guess it's kind of like color blocking just not with the bright and bold colors. i do need more solids in my closet. not necessarily for color blocking but just because i have sooo many prints!

i've been computerless and sunless for about a week...i don't know how i'm surviving. the rain finally went away but my laptop is still being repaired. my little brother jojo got a camera for his birthday. he's been testing out his photography skills so why not ask him to be my photographer! these were shot yesterday. this look is so simple and basic, i didn't plan to do this shoot. i was pretty much just testing out a new photographer ;) we drove by this hidden bridge on the way to his house. it turned out being this trail that led underneath the overpass with a stream running under. it was a pretty cool discovery.
